Since 2018, the scientific team of INEB is responsible for the genetic characterization of small ruminants, especially on autochthonous breeds and populations, using genomic technologies for the traceability of Greek breeds and their products (Michailidou et al., 2018; 2019; Michailidou, Pavlou et al 2021; Michailidou, Gelasakis et al 2021).
Given the crisis on livestock sector that is undoubtedly linked to the global crisis on agriculture sector and the declining crops/feed availability and rising costs, INAB’s research team, working closely with small ruminant breeders, offers a targeted response to the crisis, offering solutions for a sustainable livestock sector in Greece.
