INAB/CERTH brings Bioinformatics to the 90th TIF

 

Interactive digital exhibit at Pavilion 7 of the General Secretariat for Research and Innovation

 

The Institute of Applied Biosciences of CERTH (INAB/CERTH) is participating in the 90th Thessaloniki International Fair with an interactive digital exhibit that brings bioinformatics closer to the general public. From September 5 to 13, 2026, visitors will be able to learn at Pavilion 7 of the General Secretariat for Research and Innovation of the Ministry of Development how biological data is transformed into knowledge with applications in health, the environment and everyday life.

 

In a landmark event for the TIF, which celebrates 100 years of history, INAB/CERTH chooses to present science in a direct, understandable and participatory way. The exhibit invites visitors to follow the path of biodata, from genetic material and its analysis to scientific conclusions that can support research and innovation.

 

The experience was designed to show, in a simple and illustrative way, how modern computational tools help scientists decode complex biological systems and how the information hidden in a sample can reveal valuable data for biodiversity, public health and the environment.

 

Visitors will have the opportunity to navigate three characteristic scenarios of bioinformatics analysis, seeing in practice how data science meets life sciences.

 

The interactive application focuses on:

  • Identification of organisms in a lake, with the aim of understanding biodiversity and ecological balance.
  • Identification of genetic variants in blood samples, with potential applications in biomedical research and personalized health care.
  • Identification of organisms in urban wastewater, an application linked to environmental monitoring and public health.

From sample to conclusion

With research activity in Life Sciences, from microbes to plants, animals and humans, INAB/CERTH utilizes advanced bioanalysis and biodata informatics methods. Its presence at the 90th TIF highlights not only the Institute’s scientific expertise, but also the need for research to be communicated in an open, understandable and useful way for society.

With real images and visual material, the exhibit aspires to act as a bridge between the laboratory and the visitor to the Exhibition, presenting modern bioscientific research in an accessible and attractive way, inspiring young and old.
