INΑB/CERTH at Researchers’ Night 2026

Biosciences become an experience for all ages

The Institute of Applied Biosciences (INΑB) of CERTH is actively participating in Researchers’ Night 2026 in Thessaloniki, inviting people of all ages to explore the biosciences through activities that combine knowledge, discovery, and play.

Researchers’ Night is a European initiative held annually in hundreds of cities, highlighting the importance of research, innovation, and scientific knowledge in everyday life. In Greece, this year’s event will take place in seven cities—Athens, Thessaloniki, Patras, Heraklion, Larissa, Rethymno, and Kozani—featuring the participation of dozens of researchers and scientists, as well as universities and research centers.

INΑB/CERTH’s participation is part of this major celebration of research, which brings science closer to society and offers citizens the opportunity to engage directly with the world of researchers. At the INΑB/CERTH exhibit, participants will engage directly with key concepts of biology and human health through five activities that encourage observation, experimentation, and dialogue with researchers.

The Institute’s program features a simple yet impressive DNA experiment using everyday materials, revealing the genetic material hidden within fruits and vegetables. Additionally, an interactive tour of the human body helps the public identify key organs, as well as their locations and functions. At the same time, the immune system is presented as the body’s defense mechanism, starting with a familiar scenario: what happens when a wound occurs. This approach makes it easier to understand the role of the body’s “soldiers” and the process by which they are activated to protect the organism. The immersive experience is complemented by two highly interactive games: the “Bio-Quiz Challenge!”—featuring biology questions, mystery, humor, and surprises—and “In My Head… Biology!”, an original activity where participants of all ages are invited to guess words and concepts from the natural world through questioning, teamwork, and play.

Researchers’ Night 2026 in Thessaloniki will take place on Friday, September 25, 2026, from 17:00 to 22:00, at the CERTH facilities in Thermi, Thessaloniki; admission is free for everyone.
