The Institute of Applied Biosciences (INAB) at the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH) will participate at the 89th Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF), which will take place from September 6 to 14, 2025, in Thessaloniki, presenting research activities that have a direct impact on society.
INAB/CERTH will be located at Pavilion 15 of the General Secretariat for Research and Innovation (GSRI), where it will present its research work and the services it develops in the field of biotechnology, with applications in health and the production of pharmaceutical substances.
The visitors of the 89th TIF will have the opportunity to meet INAB/CERTH researchers in person and learn about the Institute’s activities overall, as well as about the topic selected for presentation at this year’s event.
More specifically, visitors will discover the world of biotechnology through an advanced fluorescence microscope and will see live genetically modified cells using the most modern DNA-editing techniques.
As explained by INAB/CERTH staff, the genetic modification of cells paves the way for impressive applications such as:
- Microorganisms that function as micro-factories for the production of high-value products, such as pharmaceuticals.
- Personalized therapies for cancer patients, tailored to each individual’s needs.
- Identification of new therapeutic solutions for neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease and multiple sclerosis.
INAB/CERTH offers visitors to the 89th TIF a unique experience that shows how science becomes visible, exciting, and accessible to everyone.
“As the Institute of Applied Biosciences of CERTH, we work every day to transform knowledge into innovative solutions that respond to critical societal needs. We invite you to the 88th TIF to get to know our work, see science put into practice, and talk about the future we are building together,” notes Anastasia Chatzidimitriou, Director of INAB/CERTH.
A few words about INAB/CERTH
The Institute of Applied Biosciences at the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (INAB/CERTH) conducts research in the Life Sciences, ranging from microbes to plants, animals, and humans. It aims to advance fundamental research while simultaneously providing solutions to important societal needs related to health and well-being.
Within this framework, INAB conducts biomedical research and focuses on the development and evaluation of digital health and personalized medicine interventions. At the same time, it utilizes modern high-throughput methodologies in molecular biotechnology and “breeding by design” approaches with the goal of developing high-quality and high-value products.
INAB researchers play an important role in identifying, disseminating, and supporting good research and educational practices, thus facilitating interaction among scientists, authorities, and society. This strengthens collaboration with key stakeholders both nationally and internationally, offering them the opportunity to upgrade their services in areas such as health, agri-food, education, and technological development.
