Dr. Eleni Theodosiou studied Food Science and Technology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, specializing in “Food Biotechnology and Microbiology”. She completed her Master’s thesis in the same field with a Postgraduate Scholarship from the Greek State Scholarships Foundation (IKY). She obtained her Ph.D. at the Department of Chemical Engineering, National Technical University of Athens, focusing on “Strategies for the biocatalytic modification of natural antioxidants”. During her doctoral studies, she collaborated with the Department of Conservation of Antiquities and Works of Art (TEI of Athens) on the “Development of enzymatic methods for the cleaning of museum objects”. From 2007 to 2008, she worked as guest researcher at the Department of Biotechnology and Enzyme Catalysis, University of Greifswald, where she gained hands-on experience in designing tailor-made biocatalysts. Between 2011 and 2015, Dr. Theodosiou served as a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Biochemical and Chemical Engineering, Technical University of Dortmund. While from 2015 to 2018, she was a researcher in the Systems Biotechnology group within the Research Unit of Sustainable Ecotechnologies, Department of Solar Materials Biotechnology at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ), Leipzig. During this period, she also developed and coordinated the four-week Master’s course “Molecular Biotechnology”, which continues to be jointly delivered by UFZ and the Department of Biochemistry, University of Leipzig. Since 2018, she has been a postdoctoral researcher at CERTH/INAB, and in 2021 she was appointed Special Operation Scientist for the Laboratory of Systems Biotechnology and Metabolomics. Her research interests include Industrial Microbiology, Systems Metabolic Engineering, Bioprocess Engineering, Applied Biocatalysis and Biotransformations, Green Processes and Bioeconomy.
