Christine Kakalou is a Software Engineer and a Research Associate at the Institute of Applied Biosciences, Center for Research and Technology Hellas (INAB|CERTH) in Thessaloniki, Greece, where she has been working since 2017. Christine holds a Diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering and an MSc Degree in Medical Informatics, both from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. She is currently a PhD candidate with the Department of Informatics & Telecommunications at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, working on Natural Language Processing, Natural Language Generation, Information Extraction and Knowledge Graphs for enhancing health literacy and patient empowerment. She has been involved in several EU and national R&D projects, addressing health data, digital interventions for public health and palliative care, drug safety, and participatory design in eHealth applications. Her key interests lie in applying AI-driven approaches, including semantic technologies and natural language processing, to improve Public Health outcomes, address Social Determinants of Health, and enhance Health Literacy.
