Spyros Petrakis is an expert in Molecular and Cellular Biology and a Researcher Grade C’ at the Institute of Applied Biosciences at CERTH, the Center for Research and Technology Hellas, Thessaloniki, Greece. He is a member of Working Group 5 of the Ataxia Global
Initiative focusing on the development of experimental models for neurodegenerative ataxias and a member of the National Ataxia Foundation. His research interests include the generation of human neurons which are utilized as models for neurodegenerative diseases
and the identification of the relevant molecular mechanisms of pathogenesis. In parallel, he focuses on the development of therapeutic strategies for neurodegeneration based on small molecules.
