Maria Orfanidou has graduated from the Chemistry department of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. She has completed her postgraduate studies in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering with specialization in Health and Food. She currently works as a research assistant in the Microbial Processes laboratory of the Agricultural Biotechnology sector at the Institute of Applied Biosciences of CERTH, Center for Research and Technology Hellas. She is mainly active in the fields of metabolic engineering, molecular biotechnology and microbiology. Her current research interests concern the utilization of the oleaginous yeast Yarrowia lipolytica to produce useful products.
